I am a longtime Quicken for Mac user: first Quicken '98, then Quicken Deluxe 2002 and now Quicken 2007. Intuit offered me a discount on Quicken 2016 for Mac and I purchased it. After converting my existing data file, I was generally underwhelmed by it and I have happily returned to using Quicken 2007 for Mac. Quicken 2007 for Mac continues to be available for $15 from the Chat function on Intuit's Support website and it has been updated to, as of this writing, version 16.2.3, which runs in Snow Leopard through El Capitan.
Does the 2007 version run natively now? When I was using it last it was running under Rosetta, which has been removed. Are you concerned about transferring the files over or just the overall use of it?
Since 2006 I've been only on Mac so I'm not sure what Quicken's been up to on the dark side, but, for my uses, Quicken 2016 has worked out well. It's pulling in my bank and credit card data (cards should be gone soon, though!) but I don't think my 401k is in there. That's more of an issue on my company's side than Quicken's, I think. Is there anything in particular you're wondering about?
I know there are reports and such but for my single life style, my main goal is basically just keeping a check register. Does the 2007 version run natively now? Is there anything in particular you're wondering about? I know there are reports and such but for my single life style, my main goal is basically just keeping a check register. I had to look up online how to link a payee in the Checking account to the credit account, so that the payment is linked, but other than that it was pretty straight forward. I can't speak for converting from the old version to the new one.
I was using Quicken Essentials for Mac and decided to just start fresh with the new version. Mainly because I just wanted to try it out, but I'm thinking, at the end of the day, do I really need all that old information? Let me know if there's anything in particular you're looking for or need help with and I'd be glad to help as much as I can. Just an update. I attempted to start a new file, importing my Quicken Essentials stuff over to Q16.
It was a mess. Balances didn't match and it also replaced the old QE categories with the new ones. While I understand why, I would have liked to keep the new ones available and maybe go through and change them. I'm a little tempted to merge and update everything, and I may do that on my vacation next week. The only reason is there's been times when I need to look up a previous transaction and I won't be able to do that if I remove QE and the file. That means though I'll have to copy all the categories and add them to the new file manually. I can always adjust the balance.
For now, I'm trying to use cash and key in transaction in both areas. Avoid both Quicken Essentials for Mac and its misleadingly named update: Quicken 2015 for Mac.
Furthermore, I purchased Quicken 2016 for Mac when offered a discount by Intuit and was greatly underwhelmed! I returned to my continued use of Quicken 2007 for Mac. I still strongly recommend you purchase Quicken 2007 for Mac from Intuit for $15 by going to the Chat feature of Intuit's Support website. It runs on Snow Leopard through El Capitan and has most of the important features of Quicken PC.
How do I convert Quicken for Windows files to Quicken for Mac 2007?
